Sebastian Macmillan PhD, RIBA
Trained as an architect at the University of Liverpool then completed a doctorate at the Royal College of Art. As a partner in Eclipse Research Consultants has written numerous case studies and best practice guides for initiatives such as Action Energy and Constructing Excellence. Seconded to the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council as Sector Programme Manager for Construction (1999-2001). Recent publications include ‘Interdisciplinary Design in Practice’ (Thomas Telford, 2001), ‘Designing Better Buildings’ (Spon Press, 2004), and ‘The Value Handbook’ (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, 2006).

Alice Moncaster MA (Cantab) CEng MICE
Worked as a civil engineer for Balfour Beatty on water projects, as a research assistant at Bristol University investigating soil-structure interaction under earthquake loading, then as a structural engineer and project manager for Babtie (Harris and Sutherland) and Mott MacDonald. Returned to research in 2007 to conduct a PhD looking at how knowledge of sustainable construction is developed during school building projects. Employed since 2008 at the Centre for Sustainable Development at Cambridge researching knowledge transfer between academia and industry, and embodied energy and carbon in buildings. Joined the IDBE in October 2010.

Chris Burgoyne PhD CEng FIStructE
Chris Burgoyne is Reader in Concrete Structures in the Engineering Dept at the University of Cambridge. He has extensive research interests in the design and properties of prestressed concrete, which has led to related work on non-metallic prestressing tendons and reinforcement. He is a member of many UK, European and International Committees and has published many research papers. Fellow and Director of Studies at Emmanuel College.
